Crystal Palace set to offer striker new contract

Crystal Palace are set to offer striker Dwight Gayle a new contract, according to ESPN.

The young striker looked set to leave Selhurst Park in the summer, but proposed moves to Bristol City & Norwich City didn’t happen and now it looks like he is about to extend his stay with the Eagles.

Manager Alan Pardew has been giving Gayle more game time and the 26-year-old now looks to be above the trio of Patrick Bamford, Fraizer Campbell and Connor Wickham in the pecking order.

Having been released by Arsenal at a young age, the striker worked his way up through Non-League playing for teams such as Stansted and Bishop Stortford before getting his break in the Football League in 2012.

Palace signed the Englishman from Peterborough back in 2013 for what was at the time, a club record fee believed to be around £4 million. It looked all-but-certain that he’d be leaving in the summer, but his performances look to have earned him a new deal.
