Crystal Palace, along with Everton, Leicester City, Newcastle United and Schalke 04, had a bid for Sporting Lisbon striker Islam Slimani rejected during the January transfer window.

Portuguese news outlet DN says that Sporting rejected offers ranging from €15million to €24millon throughout the month.

They report that the €15million bid came from Leicester City, but do not mention the bid that Palace made.

It is not a surprise that teams were interested in taking the Algerian in January as he has been in great form this season. He’s bagged 16 goals in 19 league games for Sporting this campaign, and he has also been credited with three assists.

The 27-year-old could have been the answer to Palace’s goalscoring troubles had the two clubs been able to agree a fee, and it would have been interesting to see if Alan Pardew would still have signed Emmanuel Adebayor if a deal for the Algerian could have been negotiated.
