Palace move for Juventus player to strengthen midfield

Crystal Palace are rivalling Red Bull Leipzig for the signature of Juventus midfielder Mario Lemina, according to Calcio Mercato.

Despite having only signed permanently for the Serie A champions in April, the Gabon international only appeared 10 times for the Old Lady last season during his loan spell from Marseille.

With his future under scrutiny, the newly promoted Leipzig have reportedly offered €14 million for the 22 year old.

But Palace are also in the race for the Juventus midfielder as they look to continue their strong start to the transfer window.

Alan Pardew’s side have signalled their intent for the new season with the recent additions of Andros Townsend, Steve Mandanda and James Tomkins. Adding Lemina to play alongside Yohan Cabaye will only boost Palace’s chances of improving their league position following a disappointing second half to the season last year.

Palace would face serious competition for Lemina’s signature as Calcio has reported that Stoke and West Brom are also in the race to sign Lemina and the interest in the former Lorient man could drive up his price.

Given the age of Mile Jedinak, Joe Ledley and Yohan Cabaye, Lemina would give Palace a quality young player in the middle of the park. The Eagles may be wary of a potential bidding war given the outlay that the Eagles have already spent this window as well.

matchday.
