- Crystal Palace man Tyrick Mitchell emerges as a Man Utd target
- Three others linked to Man Utd
- What replacements could be available?
Crystal Palace lost Marc Guehi in January as he joined Manchester City; this summer, they could lose another to the red side of Manchester, as Manchester United are reportedly interested in Tyrick Mitchell.
SportsMole reports that the Red Devils are looking to improve their defensive options as they believe Luke Shaw needs real competition. The 26-year-old’s contract at Selhurst Park expires at the end of 2027, which could open the door to a possible move away.
The report claims Mitchell is one of four names being considered at Man Utd, alongside Premier League fullbacks Antonee Robinson and Miles Lewis-Skelly, as well as RB Leipzig’s David Raum.
Mitchell’s importance to the Eagles
The fullback is just one game shy of making his 200th appearance in Red and Blue, where he has become an established player at the club.
Mitchell broke through into the Eagles senior team as a regular in the 2020/21 season, where he made 19 Premier League appearances.
Since then, he’s been a mainstay in the starting XI, having only missed six league games for the Selhurst Park outfit since 2021. He continues to deliver on the pitch, playing a key part in Oliver Glasner’s side’s success in the FA Cup last season, and even potentially being a contender for this year’s player of the year at the club.
Some sections of the fanbase are confused about why he hasn’t been included in England’s upcoming friendlies against Uruguay and Japan, despite a solid season in South London.
His consistency, flexibility and quality have made him stand out, which has led Michael Carrick’s side to show an interest in the 26-year-old.
Former Palace defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka also moved to Man Utd in 2019 for a £50 million deal.
If Mitchell decides it’s time to make a change, he could follow in Wan-Bissaka’s footsteps and make a move to Old Trafford in the summer.
Palace’s possible replacements
With Mitchell’s availability and excellent performances on the pitch, Crystal Palace would have to find a suitable successor.
Currently, the club have Borna Sosa as a backup to the English defender, but he has been out of favour at Selhurst Park, having failed to start a single league game so far this season.
In January 2025, Glasner’s team held a significant interest in El Hadji Malick Diouf, who went on to sign for West Ham. With the Hammers fighting against relegation, the Eagles may look to revive interest in the Senegal international.
The South Londoners were recently linked with Juventus’ Juan Cabal. The Serie A giants might be open to a sale.
Whether Mitchell decides to join Man Utd or not, the club will have to start considering its options, especially with his contract beginning to run down.
