- Crystal Palace fans react to Marc Guehi performance
- Man City drew 3-3 against Everton
- Supporters surprised
Crystal Palace fans were shocked to see Marc Guehi make a huge mistake in Manchester City’s 3-3 draw away to Everton on Monday night. The English defender’s slip-up proved costly as Pep Guardiola’s men dropped points in the title race.
City took the lead through a sensational Jeremy Doku strike in the first half. A frantic second half saw Guehi then play a loose ball in the path of Thierno Barry who slotted past Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Jake O’Brien made it 2-1 minutes later before Barry stunned the Citizens with a third for the hosts. But Erling Haaland and Doku came to the rescue to at least earn a point.
Guehi Struggles in City Setback
City’s draw means they now sit five points behind Arsenal in the title race having played a game less. The result has given Mikel Arteta’s Gunners a golden opportunity to kick on and become champions for the first time since 2004.
For Guehi, it was a night to forget and his mistake came as a surprise especially for Palace fans. They watched the English defender cement his legacy as arguably the greatest centre-back in the club’s history.
The 25-year-old left Selhurst Park for the Etihad in January, joining Guardiola’s side in a £20m deal. He departed as a hero, captaining the Eagles to FA Cup glory last season, making 188 appearances over four-and-a-half-seasons.
Guehi started his City career tremendously well and earned plaudits. But his display last night was one you wouldn’t expect from him.
“Shaky” – Fans on Guehi
Several Palace supporters were intrigued by Guehi’s dissapointing performance particularly because they are so used to seeing him thrive. That was the stance of one fan who wrote on X:
“5 years at Palace and Marc Guehi never done anything like that.”
Another supporter joked:
“Gifting a title to Eze that’s the Palace brotherhood.”
One fan feels the England international’s performances have dropped since moving:
“I’m sorry but Guehi ain’t been the same since he’s joined City He ain’t been bad but he’s been shaky.”
Another pointed out his reaction after scoring against Arsenal in the FA Cup earlier this season:
“I tell you what was also suspect was when Guehi scored the equaliser for Palace against Arsenal in injury time and didn’t celebrate.”
One alluded to Palace facing Arsenal in the final game of the season:
“Guehi have a word with your mates at Palace after that shocker.”
Guehi has unfortunately been subjected to racist abuse since last night’s game. There is no room for racism in the game and it’s utterly disgusting that it remains an issue.
The former Palace captain has the strength and resilience to put one bad game behind him. He has otherwise been superb in City colours.
