Oliver Glasner is in advanced talks to become AC Milan manager, and he wants Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta to join the club. The Austrian is expected to replace Massimiliano Allegri at the San Siro following the Italian’s sacking.

According to Calciomercato, Glasner has asked Milan to reunite him with Mateta. He helped transform the French striker into one of the Premier League’s best number nines.

Mateta nearly joined the Serie A giants back in January but failed a medical ahead of a proposed £30m switch. He returned to Selhurst Park and reclaimed a starting berth in Glasner’s team.

Glasner wants Mateta reunion

Mateta scored the winner in Palace’s 1-0 win over Rayo Vallecano in the Conference League final. That game was Glasner’s final act as Eagles boss and a perfect send-off.

The report claims that the club are demanding around €30m (£25m) for Mateta but could be open to a discount. He has one year left on his contract and this summer is the opportune time to cash in.

If Mateta were to leave on this occasion he’d do so on good terms with the fanbase. The approach taken to try and force a move in January didn’t sit well with many supporters.

The 28-year-old has been with the South London outfit since January 2022 when he arrived from Mainz for just £9m. He has since scored 62 goals in 202 games, winning the FA Cup, Community Shield and Conference League.

Mateta’s decision to make

Mateta’s departure from Palace would be a blow, given his importance to the Eagles’ frontline. The South Londoners swooped for Jorgen Strand Larsen as his replacement when he had been expected to join Milan.

Glasner’s desire for a reunion with the Frenchman makes sense, and if the forward were to leave, most would be happy to see him follow the Austrian to San Siro. Manchester United have also been linked but watching him play for another Premier League club wouldn’t be ideal
