Crystal Palace are pressing ahead with their summer squad overhaul as highly-rated academy defender Mofe Jemide completes a permanent transfer to Portuguese top-flight side FC Alverca.
The 19-year-old centre-back has arrived in Portugal to undergo medical tests before signing a three-year contract with the newly-promoted Primeira Liga outfit. According to football insider Pete O’Rourke, “Understand Crystal Palace defender Mofe Jemide is in Portugal today finalising his move to Alverca in a permanent deal.”
Palace will receive a £250,000 guaranteed fee with up to £1 million in potential bonuses, representing significant value for a player who was entering the final phase of his youth development at Selhurst Park.
Jemide’s departure ends a long-standing transfer saga surrounding one of the Academy of football’s brightest defensive prospects. Back in 2025, Crystal Palace rejected an approach from London rivals Chelsea for the permanent transfer of the then 18-year-old defender.
His steady performances across 25 Premier League 2 appearances including 12 key starts and two international caps for the England U20 national team triggered widespread interest across continental Europe.
Scouts from PSV Eindhoven, Celta Vigo, Deportivo Alavés, LASK, and Sturm Graz closely monitored his situation over recent months.
A modern centre-back who pairs physical dominance with exceptional composure on the ball, Jemide regularly captained Palace’s youth sides. Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 11 August that Crystal Palace are planning to cash in on a number of fringe players before the window closes.

Pierre Sage’s first-team evolution
The decision to sell Jemide aligns directly with the wider squad reshaping under new Palace manager Pierre Sage. Arriving from Lens to succeed Oliver Glasner, Sage has taken a decisive approach to streamlining the squad, following the earlier departure of Danny Imray.
Although Jemide impressed during senior pre-season outings against Swindon Town and Bromley, a series of significant injury setbacks delayed his immediate progression into the senior setup. With alternative options stepping ahead of him in the defensive hierarchy, Sage and the board decided to cash in and re-invest the proceeds into the first-team rebuild.
Fresh chapter at FC Alverca
For Jemide, the move to Portugal offers a direct pathway to top-flight European football. FC Alvercawho boast Real Madrid star Vinícius Júnior among their ownership group identified the English-born Nigerian defender as an ideal tactical fit to solidify their back line in the Primeira Liga.
While Palace supporters will track his progress from afar, the transfer brings financial returns to Selhurst Park while giving one of their top academy graduates a platform to showcase his talent on the European stage
