Crystal Palace set sights on €14m Torino midfielder amid heavy European competition

Crystal Palace are monitoring highly-rated Torino midfielder Gvidas Gineitis ahead of a potential late summer move.

According to Italian outlet Europacalcio.it, the Premier League side have added the 22-year-old Lithuania international to their shortlist as they prepare for a European campaign in the UEFA Europa League. However, Palace face stiff competition from across Europe, with Celtic, RB Salzburg, and Anderlecht also tracking the player.

Torino have set a valuation of €14m (£8m–£12m) for the versatile midfielder, who remains under contract with the Italian club until June 2029.

Premier League beckons for Lithuania International

Palace finished 15th in the Premier League last season but earned their place in this season’s Europa League following an impressive run to lift the UEFA Conference League trophy. With extra fixture congestion on the horizon, Oliver Glasner’s side are actively seeking depth in midfield.

Standing at 6ft 3in, the left-footed midfielder signed for Torino from Lithuanian outfit FK Atmosfera in January 2023. Since moving to Serie A, he has accumulated 43 full games worth of top-flight minutes and featured for the full 90 minutes in Torino’s Coppa Italia victory over the weekend.

European rivals eyeing quick deal

Celtic are among the clubs pushing hard to land Gineitis. The Scottish champions consider him one of their primary midfield targets, though they face a tight deadline to register new signings before their upcoming UEFA Champions League fixture against LASK Linz.

Austrian outfit RB Salzburg, led by manager Danny Röhl, are also active suitors, while Belgian giants Anderlecht have made their interest known to Torino.

With multiple suitors circling, any potential deal will need to move swiftly if Palace or their European counterparts hope to wrap up negotiations ahead of the transfer window deadline.

Agent hints at potential departure

Gineitis’ agent, Dmitry Vinokurov, confirmed that interest in the 22-year-old is growing, leaving the door open for a move away from Turin before the window closes.

“Torino holds Gvidas in high regard and believes in his future,” Vinokurov said. “The player has steadily improved within the club and is considered an important part of the project.

“At the same time, Gvidas is ambitious, as any player competing at this level should be. There have already been expressions of interest from other clubs, which is natural considering his age, performance, and potential.

“If an interesting offer were to arrive for both Torino and Gvidas, it would certainly be carefully evaluated.”

With Crystal Palace offering Premier League football and a UEFA Europa League campaign, the London side presents a compelling project. However, with Celtic offering immediate Champions League involvement and both RB Salzburg and Anderlecht competing for his signature, Torino’s €14m asking price is unlikely to deter potential buyers.

Gineitis would offer Crystal Palace physical stature and high energy in box-to-box transitions, providing valuable squad depth alongside Adam Wharton in midfield.

Whether Gineitis stays to anchor Torino’s long-term project through 2029 or makes a high-profile move before the window closes, his rapid emergence confirms his status as one of Lithuanian football’s most promising talents in recent years.
