‘Dream of Any Footballer’ Zavier Gozo Reacts After Completing Crystal Palace Transfer

“I’m really looking forward to playing in the Premier League with Crystal Palace. It’s the dream of any footballer,” Zavier Gozo declared as his first words as a new Crystal Palace player.

The 19-year-old attacking phenom completed his club-record transfer from Real Salt Lake to South London, putting pen to paper on a five-year contract at Selhurst Park following a remarkable rise through the American ranks.

The deal, subject to international clearance, sees the Eagles secure one of Major League Soccer’s most sought-after young stars. Real Salt Lake will retain a significant sell-on percentage of any future transfer fee for Gozo, who captured the imagination of the RSL faithful during a explosive 2026 campaign.

Speaking directly to Palace TV upon finalising his multi-million-pound move, Gozo revealed that the ambition and momentum in SE25 made the decision seamless. “I’m excited by the people and the project they have going on here. I’ve seen a lot of it, and that’s what excites me about this club as well: the success that they’ve had.”

High praise from boardroom and pathway pioneers

Crystal Palace Chairman Steve Parish expressed immense satisfaction after beating European competitors to secure the talented teenager, framing the signing as a major statement for the club’s long-term recruitment blueprint.

“It is great to welcome such an exciting young talent to Crystal Palace Football Club,” Parish said. “I am looking forward to seeing what Zavier can achieve with us during his time in South London.”

The transfer marks a proud culmination for Real Salt Lake’s youth development pipeline. Utah-born Gozo entered the RSL academy setup in 2021, instantly making waves before delivering two years of eye-catching, dominant displays with Real Monarchs in MLS NEXT Pro. His extraordinary work ethic pushed him into the senior spotlight when he earned his full Major League Soccer debut at just 16 years of age in October 2023.

Reflecting on the departure of a player adored by the home supporters in Salt Lake, RSL Sporting Director Kurt Schmid shared a poignant tribute to Gozo’s rise.

“Watching Zavier grow from our Academy into the player he is today has been a privilege for everyone at Real Salt Lake,” Schmid noted. “He earned this opportunity through his relentless work ethic and character. This milestone is first and foremost a credit to his dedication, alongside the steady support of the teammates, coaches and staff who shared in his journey through the Academy, Monarchs and first team. We are incredibly proud of Zavier and excited for his future.”

Tactical versatility for Pierre Sage’s new look Palace

Gozo becomes Palace’s sixth arrival of an aggressive summer transfer window, following the marquee acquisitions of Óscar Mingueza, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Dwight McNeil, Evann Guessand, and Anan Khalaili. New manager Pierre Sage continues to assemble a dynamic, flexible squad ahead of the Premier League campaign, and Gozo’s arrival provides the French tactician with another electric attacking weapon.

Capable of operating across either the left or right side of the attack, or slotting in effectively as an aggressive wing-back, the teenager’s technical versatility will give Sage invaluable options across multiple tactical shapes. Gozo brings direct running, lightning pace, unpredictable flair, and genuine end product to Selhurst Park.

His numbers throughout 2026 highlight that exact effectiveness. Gozo generated six goals and four assists across RSL’s opening 16 league matches of the year, a stellar individual run that earned him a well-deserved call-up for the 2026 MLS All-Star Game against Liga MX best XI.

Gozo’s dynamic performances extended onto the international stage, where he regularly earned the attention of the United States Youth National Team hierarchy. Racking up caps across every level up to the U-23s, the wide attacker stood out as a key protagonist for the USA side that reached the 2024 CONCACAF U-20 Championship final. He subsequently spearheaded their attack during the 2025 U-20 World Cup, driving the team all the way to the quarter-finals.

Now embarking on his big-money move to top-flight English football, Gozo joins fellow countryman Chris Richards in SE25. With a long-term contract locked in and the full backing of Pierre Sage and the board, the young American winger stands ready to showcase his talent under the Selhurst Park lights.
