- Chelsea made enquiry for Crystal Palace star
- Dean Henderson had been of interest
- Blues now eyeing AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan
Crystal Palace might not have to deal with Chelsea trying to sign Dean Henderson despite enquiries made by the Premier League. The English goalkeeper is admired by the Blues and Tottenham Hotspur.
Reports suggested that the West Londoners had set their sights on Henderson as they look to bolster their goalkeeping options. He has two years on his contract and is the Eagles’ club captain.
Henderson is one of the most important members of the South London outfit’s squad. He kept 18 clean sheets in 52 games across competitions this season.
Chelsea might have dropped Henderson interest
Palace fans will be relieved to hear that Chelsea are now looking at reigniting interest in AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan. The French shot-stopper had been on the Blues’ radar last summer but the Serie A giants’ Club World Cup valuation saw them pull the plug.
According to Ekrem Konur, the Stamford Bridge giants are considering re-exploring a deal for Maignan. It’s said that the 30-year-old is keen on a move to the Premier League.
That could mean they have decided against swooping for Henderson and are instead focused on signing Maignan. The Eagles’ new manager, who looks set to be Pierre Sage, will be eager to keep the England international at Selhurst Park.
Henderson has been with the club since August 2023, when he arrived from Manchester United for £20m. He’s since won the FA Cup, Community Shield and this season’s Conference League.
Glasner could be key
If Chelsea do swoop for Maignan, it might come at the expense of Oliver Glasner. The heroic former Palace boss is edging close to becoming Milan’s new manager.
Reports claim that Glasner is beating Arne Slot to the San Siro job, and should he take charge of the Rossoneri, he will probably want to keep Maignan. The French goalkeeper is one of the best shot-stoppers in Europe and has been with the Italians since 2021.
Hopefully, Steve Parish has agreed with Glasner that none of his former players follows him to his next club. That includes Henderson, whom you’d imagine the Austrian might be keen on replacing Maignan with if Chelsea were to sign the Milan number one.
