- Chelsea want Crystal Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson
- Blues make enquiry for England shot-stopper
- Eagles must not sell
Crystal Palace are facing another major summer battle to keep hold of their star talent, with Chelsea making enquiries about goalkeeper Dean Henderson.
The Blues are actively assessing their options between the sticks ahead of the summer transfer window. Palace’s England international has emerged as a key target following a spectacular season at Selhurst Park.
Henderson is focused on the World Cup with the Three Lions after being named in Thomas Tuchel’s squad. But his situation at club level is of interest as he enters the final two years of his contract.
Chelsea want Dean Henderson
A report from Chelsea journalist Alex Goldberg, the Blues are not preparing a formal offer at this stage. However, the initial enquiry shows they are seriously considering a swoop.
The West Londoners aren’t the only ones watching closely. Tottenham Hotspur are also keeping a firm eye on developments, meaning a bidding war between the London rivals could easily ignite if Palace show any willingness to negotiate.
Henderson has been Palace’s number one ever since arriving from Manchester United in August 2023. He is now club captain and helped the South Londoners win the UEFA Conference League last week.
Henderson must stay
Henderson has seen his reputation soar over the last 12 months. The shot-stopper was instrumental in Palace’s historic campaign, keeping an impressive 11 Premier League clean sheets.
Losing the skipper and undisputed number one would be a devastating blow ahead of an exciting Europa League campaign. Henderson has found a true home in South London, and having tasted silverware as the skipper, the Eagles hold all the cards.
With Europe on the horizon again, the club should reject any incoming proposals out of hand unless a truly astronomical fee is put on the table.
